Different underground models fit the same synthetic magnetic survey

Edited research brief

Generate magnetic observations over real terrain and compare different interpretations with the known simulated structure.

RESULT AND LIMITS

Smooth and compact inversions fit the signal but place magnetic susceptibility differently, leaving the underground structure unresolved.

The terrain is real, but the structures and observations are synthetic. A good signal fit does not establish unique geology.
